Our goal is to put on the highest profile 14U tournament in the nation. We are going to invite a limited number of teams per state - going after the highest profile teams in a 15 – 20 State region.
One of our goals is to send these 14U teams away with a teaching time or clinic that we are designing for these young athletes to work on over the winter months. Another goal is to have some training time for the coaches (in practice layout) to become better coaches and teach them some important pieces of information on how to be more successful coaches, which in the end makes for better players.
We have finally decided on a date, which will be after the World Series of all the associations (ASA, AFA, USSSA, PONY, FAST, etc.). We are affiliating this tournament with ASA, and since we are going after the highest profile teams in a 15 – 20 State region and inviting those specific teams to this event, we assume that they will be in the World Series! With that in mind, this event will be held over Labor Day weekend – the same as the QDSS – however right next door to Winthrop University at Hargate Park.
The athletes and coaches at the QDT can come visit the QDSS to see what it entails and to get some advice on the athlete and coaching side.
One of the main reasons that the 14U’s are an interesting group for us is that everyone wants to have the 16’s & 18’s at their tournaments as they are refined and draw huge attention from University coaches. Consequently, the 14’s & 12’s really suffer in attention at these multi-age group tournaments. For this reason, we felt it was time to put on a high profile tournament exclusively for these 14U’s so that they are not overshadowed by their 16U & 18U compatriots in normal tournament settings.
For the third year, we invited programs we know are strong at the upper level (16U & 18U) knowing that this strength comes from high profile 14U athletes!
Information about the 2011 Tournament will be forth coming.
